The
salentine peninsula, being extended on the sea, is characterized by a more
humid climate compared to that of the rest of Apulia,
where the Apennine mountains reduce the
quantity of the winds humidity coming from the west. Dampness is not cause
of precipitations, that howevwe, are more then in the north of Apulia, but it
causes an even more clear transformation of the temperatures: summer,
especially in the more southern areas, are particularly sultry, while winter,
even though very mild and with temperatures much over the zero, even in the
more cold periods, can be freezing when winds blow.
