  • La Focara in Novoli (16-18 January)
It is the typical bonfire of the patron saint feast of Saint Antonio Abate, a monument of agrarian engineering, created by tens of thousand bundles of shoots of grape-vine, that is higher and larger then twenty metres. It is lighted up with a jubilation of fireworks on the night of the16th Genuary. Furthermore, during the Giorni del Fuoco (Days of the Fire), there are a lot of fireworks exhibitions and competitions and can be admired the artistic show of the big illuminations. The event became topic of a National Geographic documentary and of the reportages of the Nippon Press.
  • Tavole di San Giuseppe (18/19 March) in Cocumola, San Marzano di San Giuseppe, Uggiano la Chiesa, Giurdignano, e Lizzano
It is an ancient tradition when, in honour of Saint Giuseppe, big tables are set up with local dishes. During the visit to the “table” people can taste lu cranu stumpatu and la massa culli ciciri or the vermiceddhri, that is wheat and pasta with chick-peas.
  • Settimana Santa in Taranto (March or April)
It is a striking and mystical succession of rites. The two primary fraternal orders of the church of Taranto compete to win the statues in the processions of Santa Maria Addolorata ad of the The Mysteries.
  • Palio of Taranto (May and July)
It is a costumed cultural event consisting in two regattas with ten rowboats linked to the correspondent quarters of the town. The prize is given only after both the competitions, that take palce on the 8th of May and on the 3rd Sunday of July.
  • Palio of Oria (2nd week of August)
It is a costumed cultural event of medieval setting that takes place in two days: on Saturday there is an historical parade among the city streets and on Sunday there are competitions among the quarters of the town. Aim of these competitions is to win the palio.
It is a dance during the Notte di San Rocco (San Rocco Night), when, with the rhythm of tambourines, couples of men mime a duel, dancing and daring each other with arms and hands.
  • Cavalcata dei Devoti in Ostuni (26 August) 
It is an ancient rite of the celebrations in honour of Saint Oronzo, patron of the town. The Cavalcata di Sant’Oronzo is a parade of horses and knights, harnessed with caparisons and red uniforms, rich with embroideries and sequins. There are also two interesting fairs during the three days of feast.
